The Jazz Gallery Archives

The Jazz Gallery Archive documents over 30 years of world-class jazz history. Right here in New York City.

From our beginnings in a loft in Soho in 1995 to our present-day venue in Flatiron NoMad, The Jazz Gallery has been a cultural force for three decades. The archive includes rare recordings from thousands of artists and musicians who have played at the Gallery - and many who call it home.

Our archival recordings are robust, showing the astonishing breadth of contemporary jazz and improvised music in recent decades. We have rare and unheard recordings from (to name just a few) Vijay Iyer, Miguel Zenon, Mary Halvorson, Yosvany Terry, Kris Davis, Matana Roberts, Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Clayton, Aaron Parks, Jason Moran  - and the great Roy Hargrove, our co-founder.

Additionally, The Jazz Gallery Archive includes thousands of documents illuminating both the history of jazz in the past thirty years and the history of music in New York; flyers, programs, photos, art work, correspondence, reviews, leases and invoices - all documenting the story of this small nonprofit venue that has nurtured and developed so many of the most important voices in jazz today.

Currently, we are at work digitizing and preserving these treasures, with the dream of someday making these materials available to scholars, researchers, archivists and fans.
