Composer and pianist Álvaro Torres is interested in dialogues and possibilities within jazz and free improvisation. His work has deep roots in western classical music, but always maintains a particular focus on building a unique improvisational aesthetic.
After his first release with Fresh Sound New Talent in 2019, he collaborated with prominent figures of European jazz like Kresten Osgood and Philipp Gropper. Álvaro moved to New York in 2021 to pursue his Masters degree at Manhattan School of Music on a full scholarship, and released his second album as a leader on Sunnyside Records, entitled "Heart Is the Most Important Ingredient".
For his debut concert at The Jazz Gallery, two master musicians will complete Álvaro’s trio: bassist John Hébert and legendary drummer Barry Altschul, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday.
