Anthony Tidd's Mono-Stereo

Anthony Tidd - bass
Steve Lehman - saxophone
Mark Shim - saxophone
Damion Reid - drums

Mono-Stereo feels less like a conventional “supergroup” than a volatile system of forces held together by instinct, history, and sheer musical velocity. Featuring bassist and producer Anthony Tidd alongside drummer Damion Reid, saxophonist Steve Lehman, and tenor saxophonist Mark Shim, the quartet emerged from a simple thought experiment during the 2025 Burlington Jazz Festival, which Tidd was curating: What happens if you assemble four of the most uncompromising musicians on the scene and simply let them go?

The answer is music that treats structure as something elastic — built as much from rupture as resolution. Mono-Stereo moves through dense rhythmic architectures, abstract melodic fragments, hip-hop-informed pulse, and stretches of fearless collective improvisation with the confidence of a band unconcerned with stylistic borders. At times the group locks into deep groove; at others it seems intent on dismantling the music in real time.

With four singular voices at the helm, Mono-Stereo exists somewhere between composition, improvisation, and no-holds-barred deconstruction — less a fixed ensemble than a live-wire conversation unfolding at maximum intensity.
