New York, N.Y.: Six-time GRAMMY nominated pianist-composer and Blue Note Artist Gerald Clayton searches for honest expression in every note. With harmonic curiosity and critical awareness, he develops musical narratives that unfold as a result of both deliberate searching and chance uncovering. His music is a celebration of the inherent differences in musical perspectives that promote true artistic synergy.

Throughout his career, Clayton has collaborated with such distinctive artists as Bill Frisell, Roy Hargrove, Dianne Reeves, John Scofield, and legendary band leader Charles Lloyd among many others. He currently serves as Director of Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and has served as Musical Director for Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour and the more recent Blue Note 85th Anniversary Tour. In April 2025, Clayton released “Ones & Twos” (Blue Note Records) featuring Elena Pinderhughes, Joel Ross, Marquis Hill, Kendrick Scott and Kassa Overall.

Capturing the truth in each moment’s conception of sound comes naturally to Clayton. The son of beloved bass player and composer John Clayton, he enjoyed a familial apprenticeship from an early age. Clayton honors the legacy of his father and all his musical ancestors through a commitment to artistic exploration, innovation, and reinvention.

On December 17 - 20, Clayton returns to The Jazz Gallery for a four-night run of 30th Anniversary Special Concerts “Where The Future Is Present”
