Hannah Marks - double bass
Nathan Reising - alto saxophone
Yvonne Rogers - piano
Steven Crammer - drums

Formed in 2021, the Hannah Marks Quartet features a group of edgy, young NYC-based jazz musicians: Hannah Marks as bassist and bandleader, Nathan Reising on alto saxophone, Lex Korten on piano, and Steven Crammer on drums. They have performed at renowned NYC venues including the 55 Bar, The Jazz Gallery, Bar Lunatico, and Bar Bayeux, and across the country at the Iowa City Jazz Festival and Center City Jazz Festival.
Described as having “a fresh, modern, and original approach to playing the bass” (Marcus Printup), Marks is influenced by Ron Carter and Charlie Haden as equally as Larry Grenadier and Kim Cass. In addition to leading her quartet, she is an in-demand side-woman who has played bass for Geoffrey Keezer, Nasheet Waits, Terri Lyne Carrington, Anna Webber, Miles Okazaki, Ingrid Jensen, Kalia Vandever, Matt Wilson, Ted Nash, Morgan Guerin, and Marcus Printup.
The quartet’s shared experiences and deep love of certain bands, like the Branford Marsalis Quartet, Jason Moran’s Bandwagon, Miles Davis' Second Quintet, and Keith Jarrett’s American Quartet, brings a sense of flexibility, shared rhythmic vocabulary, and raw energy to the music. Their repertoire, which includes songs by Geri Allen, Dewey Redman, and Paul Motian, as well as Marks’ original compositions, reflects their risk-taking, improvisatory focus.
