“Everything Dances,” sums up how underlying mathematical principles such as waves, proportion, and resonance, become melody, harmony, and rhythm in music. Join Marcus Garrick Miller and his band IWM, as he brings his Beauty & Logic concert series to The Jazz Gallery. As an accomplished saxophonist with a deep love for mathematics, Marcus brings both passions to the stage. Through his original compositions and witty dialogue he aims to delight audiences by elucidating the beauty of mathematics and guiding them through what’s possible in music when guided by a mathematical imagination.
Marcus Garrick Miller is a distinguished saxophonist, composer, and curator based in New York City. He began performing professionally in his teens, later graduating from Harvard University with a degree in Mathematics. After working at a prominent hedge fund upon graduation, Marcus returned to his true calling: music. Miller has performed across the world, including at the Obama White House, Carnegie Hall, WEF at Davos, and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He has collaborated and performed with Jon Batiste, The Fugees, Madonna and joined Oprah on her “2020 vision” stadium tour. In 2017, Marcus began curating a program featuring his original music alongside concepts from math and science in which he debuted at the Museum of Mathematics. Now titled ‘Beauty & Logic’, Marcus has showcased this concert series at universities, non-profit organizations, and conferences such as TED and The Fast Company Impact Council.
