Michaël Attias - alto saxophone
Matt Moran - vibes
Sean Conly - bass
Tom Rainey - drums
Ralph Alessi - trumpet (9:30 set only)

"Kardamon Fall, Michaël Attias' latest project, is a shape-shifting quartet steeped in myth and heartbreak, operating in that special zone of overlap between contemporary jazz and post-romantic idioms. When tonality breaks down, it radiates its richest and most penetrating colors: Autumn reds before the atonal Winter.

The band features long-term collaborators Sean Conly, Tom Rainey and—tonight—very special guests vibraphonist Matt Moran (both sets) and trumpetist Ralph Alessi (second set only), playing material from both Kardamon Fall (Out of Your Head, 2024) and its prequel of sorts, Spun Tree, Attias' 2012 Clean Feed release with Alessi, Conly, Rainey and Matt Mitchell.

Splitting his time between New York City and Berlin, Michaël Attias has earned a reputation as one of the most questing and keenly collaborative figures on the international Jazz and Improvised Music scene, with a background and outlook that make him ""an emphatically cosmopolitan saxophonist and composer,"" according to The New York Times. Attias has released ten albums as leader, which display an aesthetic of enormous range, emotional power and invention. The most recent are Quartet Music Vols I & II (Out of Your Head, 2024), the alto saxophone/piano solo *échos la nuit* (Out of Your Head, 2019) and Nerve Dance (Clean Feed, 2017). As a sideman, he has worked with such luminaries as Anthony Braxton, Paul Motian, Oliver Lake, Masabumi Kikuchi, Angelica Sanchez, Michael Formanek, Tony Malaby, Fay Victor. Attias' compositions have been covered by such artists such Eric Revis, Anthony Coleman, and most recently Kris Davis with Esperanza Spalding. He has also written for orchestra and big band and created several live electroacoustic scores and sound designs for theatre. As an educator, Attias is passionate about sharing his experience and curiosity with the next generation of musicians, teaching at various institutions and leading workshops and masterclasses.
