Sans Vox is a new quintet from bassist and songwriter Chris Morrissey. As the name implies, this is a departure from his role as a frontman and singer, a well-established identity in these ‘20s with four full-length records on GroundUP Music and many tours with his longtime band to show for it. Departure, yes - but also a return to a musical entry point, recalling the acoustic instrumental music of his debut recordings for Sunnyside “The Morning World” and “North Hero”. Recalling, but not repeating. Sans Vox is old and new friends playing new and less new music.
In addition to Chris Morrissey’s life as a bandleader, he has also toured and recorded with some of music’s most respected names: Norah Jones, Mark Guiliana, Nate Smith, Gretchen Parlato, Dave King Trucking Company, Chris Thile, Margaret Glaspy, Trixie Whitley, Sara Bareilles, Boy George and many others.
