“Chase the Wind” is pulled from a collage done by artist Lorraine O’Grady and the piece is about the attempt to hold on to things in a life that is fleeting. Part of how I envision my compositional practice is reaching up and pulling melodies down from the air, so I think in a lot of ways music and composing gives me the chance to successfully chase the wind and hold on to improvisational fragments of melody. The intention of the piece is to create a space to be free." - Immanuel Wilkins
