Yon Yæng is a sequel to Kengchakaj’s debut album Lak Lan. It’s derived from the Thai saying “Lak Lan Yon Yæng,” which roughly means paradox.

For this performance, Kengchakaj will focus on synthesis sounds and soundscape texture and use Sound Cultures from Southeast Asia. It will be a mix of musical pieces and emotional content that may be represented in the opposite direction, but all of it is a reflection of himself. Some political, some personal struggles, some heartfelt and warm,  some healing, some frustrated and angry, and some academic and technology-oriented.

Kengchakaj Kengkarnka is a Bangkok-born, Brooklyn-based improviser and composer. By juxtaposing different materials and concepts, such as Southeast Asia Sound Cultures, the Blues, layered rhythms, electronics, soundscapes, textures, and emotions, Kengchakaj composes and improvises sounds that unify seemingly opposite ideas and make room for new directions. He graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, is a Fulbright Scholarship recipient, and a Gold Award Lumen Prize winner with Nitcha Tothong.
