OVER THE MOONs is a brand-new set of music from Taiwanese vibraphonist Yuhan Su. Su wrote the music in February 2024 during her residency at Ucross Foundation In Wyoming. The idea came from the ever-present reality of Double-Consciousness that exists like two Moons inside of her brain after living in the US for over 15 years. In the same way that each moon draws its own tides and shines in its own time, Su constantly perceives things in different languages and through the framework of multiple cultures. This music taps into shifting and extended harmonies through multiple layers of sounds, melodies, and grooves. The project features a fantastic Octet with Alex LoRe on alto saxophone, Anna Webber on tenor saxophone, Matt Mitchell on piano, YingDa Chen on guitar, Marty Kenney on bass, James Paul Nadien on drums, Shinya Lin on live electronic processing with MAX/MSP and Yuhan Su on vibraphone with effect pedals. After this world-premiere evening, the band will do a studio recording studio to document this music.
